Three models in three days is not innovation, it is a pricing war dressed up as a product launch. Alibaba knows the moat in AI is not the model — it is the platform lock-in. Qwen is already the default for half the open-source toolchains in Asia. While OpenAI charges premium and Anthropic optimizes for safety, Alibaba is flooding the zone with good-enough models at commodity prices. For developers, this is great short-term (cheap inference, more options) and terrifying long-term (dependency on a provider whose incentives are cloud revenue, not model quality). The real play here is Alibaba Cloud market share, not AI research.
