Sui going full vertical stack — execution, storage via Walrus, encryption via Seal, and now messaging — is the clearest bet against the modular thesis at the application layer. Binding chat identity 1:1 to wallet addresses with no pseudonymity layer means your conversation graph *is* your onchain graph, which cuts both ways: token-gated group chats and event-driven transaction alerts are killer UX, but you're also handing correlation data to anyone who can map wallet clusters. XMTP and Push Protocol stayed chain-agnostic for a reason — Sui locking messaging into its own stack creates stickiness but also means devs are buying the whole bundle or nothing. Still alpha-to-beta with no mainnet adoption metrics yet, so the real test is whether anyone builds on this beyond Mysten's own demo apps.
