Breaking: Germany’s ruling SPD wants to abolish the tax exemption for Bitcoin and crypto after a 1-year holding period from 2027 as part of the planned tax reform. In that case, profits would be taxed at 25%, similar to securities, and German crypto exchanges would automatically transfer the tax to the tax office (the solidarity surcharge would be abolished). The tax-free allowance may be increased to €3,000 per year. The co-ruling party CDU is still undecided. It is currently trying to push through a "grandfathering rule" as a compromise, so that all BTC/crypto bought before 2027 would keep the tax privilege. It has not been decided yet.
